Open an email, choose Writford, then select Sign in to Writford. If your Microsoft work account is already linked, the pane signs you in automatically. Otherwise one Writford sign-in window opens, closes after a successful login, and returns you to the email. Your plan must include the Outlook connector.

Reload Outlook, open Apps or Get Add-ins, then check My add-ins. If your firm deployed Writford centrally, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to confirm you are included. After a new central deployment, Microsoft may take time to show the button in every Outlook client.

Files you add to a matter are stored in encrypted storage in the AWS London region, and only people in your firm who can reach the matter can open them. A file you attach to an AI chat is kept as a working copy for one day and then deleted automatically. The AI receives only the text it needs and never uses your documents for training. AI requests are processed by Amazon Web Services and may be processed outside the UK under the UK's approved data transfer safeguards.

Chat is the default. Fast conversational answers from the AI's training with no live lookups. Cheapest mode, ideal for drafting starters, plain-English explanations, and follow-ups. Toggle Search on (or press Cmd/Ctrl + .) when you need current UK sources cited in your answer. Writford will query legislation.gov.uk, SRA guidance, case law, and trusted web sources before responding. Extended Thinking retrieves live UK legal sources, then reasons through them at greater length before answering, and lists the sources it relied on under the answer. Best for complex matters where thoroughness is essential.

Writford is a research tool, not a replacement for professional judgement. Always verify AI outputs against primary sources. Clickable source citations are provided with every response so you can check the original legislation.

Matters are containers for organising your chats by client or case. Create a matter for each client or transaction, then drag chats into it. You can rename, share, or delete a matter from the 3-dot menu next to its name. Sharing a matter gives a colleague full access to it, including editing, and the chats inside it come with it.

Custom instructions let you set preferences that apply to all your chats. For example: 'Always cite UK law', 'Use formal tone', or 'Focus on property law'. You can create up to 10 instructions and toggle them on/off.

When you get a useful AI response, click the bookmark icon to save it. You can label bookmarks and assign them to matters. Find all your saved responses in the Bookmarks section.

Yes. When the AI drafts a legal document, you'll see export options for PDF, Word, and Excel. PDFs include 'DRAFT - For Solicitor Review' watermarks automatically.

Your trial lasts 14 days from signup, with every feature and enough usage to try the AI. If the trial's usage runs out first, the AI pauses and everything else keeps working until the 14 days end. You can then choose a plan (Standard, Premium, or Pro) on an annual, 3-year or 5-year term. You can choose one at any time during the trial.

On a 1 or 3-year term, go to Settings → Subscription → Manage Billing. That opens your Stripe billing portal, where you can cancel, change plan or update payment details. A 5-year term is a one-time purchase rather than a subscription, so there is nothing to cancel and nothing will auto-renew. It simply runs to the end of the term.

Yes. Your data is stored in the UK. AI requests are processed by Amazon Web Services and may be processed outside the UK under the UK's approved data transfer safeguards. The legal search queries the assistant writes go to a web-search provider, as set out on our Sub-Processor page. Nothing is used for AI training, and you can delete all your data at any time via Settings → Security. We publish a full Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and Sub-Processor list.
