When you open a matter's document from Writford, the timer starts on that matter for you. Keep working the way you always do — draft, review, amend — and the moment you close the document, the time is logged straight to that matter, with the document's name filled in as the note. The timer runs on one matter at a time: open a different matter's document through Writford and it prompts you to switch. If your machine goes idle or to sleep, the clock freezes so lunch and meetings never bill. Every timer entry lands as a draft — you review it and confirm before it reaches a bill, so the time is both accurate and entirely under your control.
A desktop app can talk to the rest of your machine. Open a matter document straight into Microsoft Word, draft an email from a file in Outlook, and — with Word on Windows — save your changes back to the matter without any browser download-and-reupload dance. Your files stay organised in Writford while you edit them in the tools you already know, and every version is kept.
Trains, client sites, and courtrooms are not always online. The desktop app keeps your workspace responsive so you can keep reading and working while the connection comes and goes, then syncs when you are back on the network.
Writford lives in your system tray, so the whole practice is a single click away from anywhere on your desktop. The app updates itself in the background and installs the latest version on restart, so your firm is always on the current release without an IT rollout.
